Thomas Mawer (Service No 198) was born in Sydney, N.S.W. in 1893.

Tomas enlisted when he was 21 years old, single, lived at Bulli, N.S.W. and worked as a horse breaker.  Tom and had served 2 years in the Militia.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A41 Forty-One with 1st Reinforcements, 6th Light Horse Regiment on 22nd December 1914.  The troops arrived in Egypt and Tom served there until he was sent to Gallipoli on 6th August 1915, when he took part in the Lone Pine Battles.

After the evacuation of Gallipoli he served in Egypt and the Middle East and on 23rd September 1916 was appointed as ashoeing smith.

Tom returned to Australia in November 1918 for leave, and was discharged on 24th March 1919.

On 3rd January 1919 he married Eliza Allen and together they had 2 children.  Tom & Eliza divorced in 1939, and in 1940 he married Clara Taylor.

Thomas died in Newcastle in 1972.
