Benjamin Corin Tregoning
Benjamin Tregoning (Service No 4634) was born in January 1890 at Woonona, N.S.W.
At enlistment, Benjamin was single, 25 years old, and employed as a miner.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A62 Wandilla with 14th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion, on 3rd February 1916. The troops arrived in Egypt on 7th March 1916 and Benjamin was sent to France, arriving on 4th April 1916.
On 8th June he was transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion and served with them on the Western Front. The Pioneers opeated under terrible conditions and it is amazing that Benjamin came through the war without injury.
On 17th October 1917 Benjamin was promoted to Lance Corporal.
He returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 25th August 1919.
In 1920 he married Raie Appleby and the couple had 2 children. Twenty years later, in 1940, Benjamin married Margaret Love.
Benjamin died in Bulli in 1950. He is commemorated on the Bulli-Woonona War Memorial.
