Edward Moorhouse (Service No 4244) was born in Sheffield, England.

He arrived in Australia, with his family, in 1883. The family settled in Queensland, and Edward served 2 years, in the Queensland Militia. In 1903, Edward married Lydia Denning.

At enlistment, Edward was 39 years old, worked as a miner, and lived in Balgownie, N.S.W. Edward embarked on HMAT A60 Aeneas, with 3rd Battalion, 13th Reinforcement, on 20th December 1915. On arrival in Egypt, he was posted to 2nd Battalion, on 14th February 1916.

Edward arrived in France, on 28th March 1916, and saw service in France and England. He was at Pozieres, when he was wounded in action, on 23rd July 1916.

He was evacuated to a hospital in England, for treatment of a gun shot wound to his jaw. Edward remained in England, and in April 1918, he returned to Australia. He was discharged medically unfit, due to his age, on 18th July 1918.

After the war, Edward moved to Lithgow, N.S.W. In 1923, Edward and Lydia divorced, and in 1924, he married Florence Spalding.

Active in the RSL, Edward was president of the Lithgow Branch.

Edward died suddenly in Lithgow Hospital, N.S.W. in 1931, age 54 years.

He is buried at Rookwood Cemetry, N.S.W.  Edward's service is commemorated on the Balgownie Presbyterian Church Honour Roll and the Balgownie War Memorial 1914-1918.
