John May (Service No 150) was born in North Shields, England and had served in the Territorials before coming to Australia.  On 18th March 1900 he married Catherine Johnson in Northumberland and they had one daughter.

At enlistment John was 37 years old, worked as a miner, and lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W. He listed his daughter, Winnie May of the Glebe Girls Home, as his next of kin.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A35 Berrima with Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (Tropical Unit), A Company, on 19th August 1914.

John was promoted to Lance Corporal on 3rd October 1914.  He saw service in Rabaul and returned to Australia in 1915.

He was discharged on 4th March 1915.  He then enlisted in the AIF on 18th March 1915 but was discharged medically unfit on 26th May 1915.

John died in Queensland in 1957.
