James Rae (Service No 7544) was born in Ayr, Scotland and came to Australia with his family.

At enlistment James was single, 21 years old, employed as a coke worker, and lived at Clifton,N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 25th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, on 31st October 1917. 

He arrived in England on 26th December 1917and after serving for some time in England he was sent to France and arrived on 2nd June 1918.

He returned to Australia in January 1920 and was discharged on 8th February 1920.

In 1941 James married Beatrice Pollock at Marrickville,N.S.W.

James died in Balmain in 1955.
