Arthur Thomas Peterson
Arthur Peterson (Service No 4958) was born in Hull, England and came to Australia with his family.
At enlistment Arthur was single, 33 years old, worked as a bricklayer, and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A15 Star of England with 15th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, on 8th March 1916. After arriving in Egypt he was transferred to 55th Battalion on 20th April 1916.
The 55th Battalion arrived in France on 29th June 1916 and was sent to Fromelles.
Arthur served on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 9th May 1917 when he was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left arm. He returned to his unit in France on 24th May 1918.
Arthur was wounded a second time on 2nd September 1918 and again evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his left leg.
He returned to Australia in January 1919 and was discharged medically unfit on 18th April 1919.
He died in 1929 at the age of 47 and is buried in Wollongong Cemetery.
