Michael Gammey (Service No 4038) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.

At enlistment Michael was single, 24 years old and worked as a farmer at Bega, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 10th Reinforcements, 30th Battalion, on 7th October 1916.  He arrived in England on 21st November 1916 and then in France on 30th December 1916.

Michael finally joined 30th Battalion on 8th February 1917 and saw service on the Western Front.

He had a brief admission to hospital in France in December 1917 after becoming ill.

On 5th August 1918 he was transferred to Australian Army Postal Corps and served with them until he returned to Australia in July 1919.

Michael died in 1977.
