William Futcher (Service No 26521) was born at Lidsdale, N.S.W. around 1887.

At enlistment William was single, 29 years old, worked as a miner,and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.   William had served with the Garrison Artillery.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A47 Mashobra with 19th Reinforcements, 1st Field Artillery Brigade on 14th September 1916.  The troops arrived in England on 2nd November 1916 and William arrived in France on 15th March 1917.

He joined 12th Field Artillery Ammunition Column as a driver on 24th March 1917.  It was a while before he joined the fighting owing to a dispute with a superior, after which William was court martialed and was given a heavy sentence. 

On 28th December 1917 was admitted to hospital in Belgium for 3 days after falling ill.

He was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged on 12th August 1919.

In 1920 he married Gladys Wade and they had one child.

William died in 1929 age 43 and is buried at Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney.
