Edgar Shipp (Service No 1273)  was born in Goulburn, N.S.W.

On 15th June 1895 Edgar married Elizabeth Shipp in Wollongong and they raised 2 children.

Edgar was 43 years of age, lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W. and was employed as a  bookkeeper when he enlisted.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A72 Beltana with B Company, 30th Battalion, on 9th November 1915.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 11th December 1915.

On 23rd June 1916 Edgar arrived in France and saw service on the Western Front. He was involved in the battle of Fromelles when he was wounded in action on 20th July and evacuated to hospital in France for treatment of gun shot wounds to his head and leg.  He returned to his unit on 8th August 1916.

On 30th August 1916 Edgar was promoted to Corporal, and soon after, on 31st December 1916 he was promoted to Sergeant.

On 10th July 1917 Edgar was admitted to hospital after becoming ill.  Following eye tests he was returned to Australia in January 1918.  

On 16th April 1918 Edgar was discharged medically unfit due to severe rheumatism.

Edgar died in Sydney in 1943.
