Evan Jones (Service No 2185) was born in Sydney, N.S.W.

In 1914 he married Christina Alice Young in Wollongong.

At enlistment Evan was 23 years fo age and worked as a lamp trimmer.  

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A44 Vestalia with 4th Reinforcements, 53rd Battalion, on 11th July 1916.

The troops arrived in England on 9th September 1916 and Evan joined 53rd Battalion in France on 20th November 1916.

Evan saw service on the Western Front until 17th April 1918 when he was gassed.

He returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged on 18th September 1919.

Evan died in 1954 and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney.
