Errol Smith (Service No 4303) was born in Batemans Bay, N.S.W.

At enlistment he was single, 21 years of age, lived at Clifton, N.S.W. and worked as a telegraph operator.

Errol embarked from Sydney on HMAT A60 Aeneas with 13th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, on 20th December 1915.  The troop arrived in Egypt on 14th February 1916 and Errol was sent on to France on 28th March 1916.

Errol saw service at Pozieres and was wounded in action on 22nd July 1916 when he was evacuated to hospital in in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his leg.  He returned to his unit in France on 11th April 1917.

He was admitted to hospital on 7th March 1918 suffering from influenza, and on 5th August 1918 he was sent to hospital in England for treatment of trench feet.

Errol was returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged.

In 1936 he was living at Thirroul and in 1938 was at the State Hospital at Liverpool.

Errol died in 1943 in Sydney at the age of 48.
