Godfrey Williamson (Service No 2503) was born at Tarrawanna near Wollongong, N.S.W.

At enlistment Godfrey was single, 19 years old, worked as a coal miner, and lived at Corrimal, N.S.W.   Godfrey had served in the 37th Infantry.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 5th Reinforcements, 45th Battalion, on 24th August 1916.  After the troops arrived in England on 11th October 1916 Godfrey was transferred to 13th Battalion, and joined them in France on 6th March 1917.

While fighting at Bullecourt, Godfrey was wounded and taken prisoner.  He received a gun shot wound to the chest and was treated by German doctors before being sent to a POW camp where he spent the rest of the war.

Godfrey was repatriated to England on 26th December 1918.  

He was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged on 17th October 1919.

On 27th December 1920 he married Christina Rhodes and they had one child. The family remained in Wollongong.

Godfrey died in 1975.
