Andrew Artis (Service No 1972) was born in Bulli, N.S.W.

At enlistment Andrew was single, 22 years old and worked as a bank clerk with the Commercial Bank.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A70 Ballarat with 3rd Reinforcements, 30th Battalion, on 16th February 1916.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 23rd March 1916 and Andrew was sent on to France with 30th Battalion. 

Andrew fought at Fromelles and saw service on the Western Front until 26th March 1917 when he was admitted to hospital with mumps and trench fever. He was sent to England to recover but his health was not good and he remained in England until he was returned to Australia in November 1918.

He was discharged medically unfit on 11th April 1919.

In 1921 he married Catherine Flory and they had one child.

Documents on his file indicate Andrew was living at Cobar, N.S.W. in 1954 and 1965.

Andrew died in 1979.

His service is recorded on the Woonona Presbytrian Church plaque, and the Bulli-Woonona War Memorial, in N.S.W.
