Phillip Mascord (Service No 2603) was born at Woonona, N.S.W. in 1894.

At enlistment Phillip was 22 years old, single, lived at Corrimal, N.S.W. and worked as a blacksmith; Phillip had served in 37th infantry.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A24 Benalla with 5th Reinforcements, 39th Battalion, on 9th November 1916.  The troops arrived in England on 9th January 1917 and Phillip was soon with 39th Battalion in France, arriving on 28th March 1917.  While serving on the Western Front Phillip was promoted to Lance Corporal on 18th May 1917.

On 17th June 1917, while serving at Messines, Phillip was wounded and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a severe shrapnel wound to his left arm.  He returned to France on 27th October 1917.

On 6th June 1918 he was wounded a second time when he received a gun shot wound to the face; he returned to his unit on 24th June 1918.

Phillip was returned to Australia in November 1919 and discharged on 28th December 1919.

On 5th November 1921 he married Grace Barnett in Victoria.  They returned to the Illawarra region and lived there for the rest of their lives.

Phillip Mascord died in 1956. He is buried at Woronora Cemetery, N.S.W.
