Vincent Rath (Service No 693) was born in Forbes, N.S.W around November 1893.

At enlistment Vincent 23 years of age, single, lived in Wollongong, N.S.W. and was employed as a chemist.

He embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses with 12th Reinforcements, 1st Machine Gun Company, on 9th May 1917.  The troops arrived in England on 29th July 1917 and after specialist machine gun training, Vincent joined his unit in France on 9th April 1918.

Vincent served on the Western Front until 20th September 1918 when he was wounded and sent to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left knee.

He was returned to Australia in March 1919 and discharged on 17th June 1919.

In 1923 Vincent married Frances Jordan.
