Stanley Marks Guard
Stanley Marks Guard (Service No 1941A), was born in Woonona, Wollongong N.S.W.
At the time of enlistment Stanley was single, 30 years old and employed as a printer in Thirroul, N.S.W. Stanley embarked on HMAT A54 Runic with the 18th Battalion, 3rd reinforcements on 9th August 1915 travelling to Egypt.
During his service he was promoted to Corporal on 18 October 1915 and promoted again to Sergeant on 16th April 1916.
Stanley served in Egypt until he went to England on 2nd August 1916 where he served as a signals instructor. He joined the 20th battalion in France on 27th April 1918 and served on the Western Front until the war ended.
On 27th December 1917 in England Stanley married Marjorie Bell and then worked with fur and leather learning the industry for 3 months from February till May 1919.
Stanley returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged on 12th October 1919.
Stanley Marks Guar died in South Australia in 1961
