Edward Naughton (Service No 4497) was born around 1887 near Bathurst, N.S.W.

When he enlistdd Edward was 28 years old, single, lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W. and worked as a coal miner.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A71 Nestor with 11th Reinforcements, 19th Battalion on 9th April 1916.  He arrived in England on 7th June 1916 and after training joined 19th Battalion in France on 19th November 1916.

Edward served on the Western Front until 28th February 1917 when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment to a gun shot wound to his right arm.  He returned to his unit on 5th April 1917 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 11th June 1917.

On 24th July 1918 Edward was further promoted to Corporal.

He was wounded in action a second time on 3rd October 1918 and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment having been gassed.

He was returned to Australia in December 1918 and discharged medically unfit on 21st April 1919.

Edward died in 1957.
