James Quinn (Service No 1791) was born in Campbelltown, N.S.W.

At enlistment he was 22 years of age, single, lived at Wollongong, N.S.W. and worked as a labourer.  James' next of kin was his father William who lived in Kenny Street, Wollongong.

James embarked from Sydney on HMAT A9 Shropshire with 4th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion on 17th March 1915.  After arriving in Egypt he went on to join B Company, 3rd Battalion on Gallipoli on 31st May 1915.  

James was evacuated to hospital on Mudros on 14th June 1915 for treatment of a septic foot and eye trouble, then transferred to hospital in Cairo on 12th July 1915.

He was returned to Australia in September 1915 suffering from loss of sight.  In hospital in Australia for some time, he was finally discharged medically unfit, on a full pension, on 11th January 1917.
