Tom Moir (Service No 14009) was born in Hobart, Tasmania, and came to the Illawarra district of N.S.W. with his family as a child.

Tom enlisted when he was 21 years old, single, lived at Corrimal, N.S.W., and worked as a bank clerk.  Tom had served previously in the cadets and 37th Infantry.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 2nd Reinforcements, 14th Field Company Engineers on 14th April 1916.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 16th May 1916 and Tom went on to France arriving on 15th June 1916.

He was transferred to 5th Division Engineers on 7th August 1916 and saw service on the Western Front without being wounded.  He was admitted to hospital in France on 23rd November 1916 with bronchitis but returned to his unit on 27th November.

Tom returned to Australia in May 1919.

In 1921 Tom married Ann Riddle at Bulli, N.S.W.  The couple had no children.

Tom returned to working at the bank and was eventually sent to Kendall, N.S.W. as manager of English Scottish & Australian (E.S.A.) bank.

He was a well known cricketer and tennis player. In early 1933 he became ill and spent the last months of his life in hospital.

Tom's funeral was held in the Illawarra; after a large funeral he was buried at Bulli.
