Patrick Owens (Service No 4212) was born in Sydney about 1886.

At enlistment Patrick was single, 29 years old, worked as a miner and lived at Austinmer, N.S.W.; he listed his sister Mrs Cahill as his next of kin.

He embarked on HMAT A15 Star of England with 10th Reinforcements, 18th Battalion on 8th March 1916.  After arriving in England he joined 18th Battalion in France on 9th September 1916 and saw service on the Western Front.  Patrick was admitted to hospital with trench feet on 22nd November 1916. He recovered and returned to the front.

On 29th December 1917 he was transferred to 2nd Division Salvage Company and served with them for the rest of the war. This unit's job was to salvage any equipment left on battle fields for reuse.

Charles returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged on 27th July 1919.  His service is commemorated on the Austinmer War Memorial.
