Edward Williams (Service No 700) was born in Port Macquarie, N.S.W. around 1892.

Edward enlisted when he was 24 years old.  He was single, employed as a storekeeper, and lived at Austinmer, N.S.W.  Edward had served previously for 3 years with the N.S.W. Irish Rifles Militia.

On 29th March 1915, before embarking for overseas duty, Edward was promoted to Company Quartermaster Sergeant.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with B Company, 19th Battalion on 25th June 1915.

After arriving in Egypt he was sent to Gallipoli, arriving on 16th August 1915, and served until the evacuation when he was returned to Egypt.  Edward was then sent on to France, arriving on 25th March 1916.

On 21st May 1918 Edward was gassed at Mourlancourt.

On 21st January 1919 he was transferred to 18th Battalion.

Edward returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged on 5th August 1919.
