Allan Raftery (Service No 2419 & 7187) was born in Albion Park, N.S.W.

Allan first enlisted (Service No 2419) at the age of 18 when he was single and worked as a labourer.  

He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A68 Anchises with 4th Reinforcements, 31st Battalion on 14th March 1916.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 15th April 1916.  Allan was admitted to hospital suffering from diptheria on 12th May 1916 and joined the Battalion in France on 23rd July 1916.

In November 1916 and again in January 1917 he was admitted to hospital sick.  Evenutally Allan was returned to Australia in August 1917 and discharged medically unfit on 31st December 1917. He seems to have suffered ongoing effects from the diptheria.

On 14th January 1918 Allan re-enlisted (Service No 7187) and embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A71 Nestor with 21st Reinforcements, 19th Battalion on 28th February 1918.

The troops arrived in England on 20th April 1918 and was back in France on 18th July 1918 with 25th Battalion.  On 1st August 1918 he was admitted to hospital sick but returned to the front on 17th August.

On 29th September 1918 Allan was wounded in action receiving a gun shot wound to his leg.  On 6th October he was sent to England for treatment and returned to Australia in December 1918.

Allan was discharged on 15th March 1919.

He does not appear to have married.  Allan died in 1966.
