Oswald Dent was born in Sydney, N.S.W. and at the time of his enlistment he was 31 years of age,  married, and a Clerk in Holy Orders at Austinmer Rectory, N.S.W.  On 22nd October 1913 Oswald married Alice Deffell on 22nd October 1913 and when the Reverend Dent enlisted, he and Alice had 3 children.

Oseal embarked on board HMAT A55 Kyarra with the Chaplain Corps on 3rd September 1917.

He arrived in Egypt on 19th October 1917 and then went on to England arriving on 8th December 1917.

On 24th December 1917 he joined 8th Brigade Headquarters as Chaplain 4th Class.

On 23rd August 1918 he was admitted to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station suffering from Influenza and was admitted to hospital in England on 30th August.

On 9th December 1918 he was returned to Australia and discharged from the AIF on 15th February 1919.

Oswald died in 1973.  His service is commemorated on the Austinmer War Memorial.
