John McLachlan (Service No 6285) was born in Kangaroo Valley, N.S.W. and attended Jerrunga Public School.  He had served 12 years in the Militia.

When John enlisted at the age of 36, he was single, employed as a coal miner, and lived at Coledale, N.S.W.

John embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 20th Reinforcements, 13th Battalion on 9th September 1916.  The troops arrived in England on 26th October 1916 and after training John joined his unit in France on 7th May 1917.

On 7th August 1917 he was wounded in action in Belgium and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a dislocated shoulder.  He did not return to his unit until 14th May 1918 and the news of his mother's death in March 1918 may have delayed his return to the front.

On the 8th August 1918 John was wounded in action and taken to 11th Australian Field Ambulance for treatment of bullet wounds to his right thigh but at about 10am he died from his wounds.

John is buried in Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, France: Plot III, Row E, Grave 1.
