Thomas McIntyre (Service No 420) was born in Jaspers Brush, N.S.W. in 1887 and attended Jaspers Brush Public School.

When Thomas enlisted he was single, 27 years old and employed asa  carpenter.

He embarked Melbourne on HMAT A38 Ulysses from Melbourne with D Company, 13th Battalion on 22nd December 1914.  The troops arrived in Egypt in February 1915 and were sent on to serve on Gallipoli.  Thomas was admitted to hospital on 25th June 1915 sick, and was back on duty on 27th June.  He was admitted to a 2nd time suffering from jaundice on 22nd November 1915.  

On 3rd March 1916 Thomas was transferred to 45th Battalion.  On 1st April he was promoted to Corporal, and the next day he was promoted to Sergeant.

Thomas arrived in France on 8th June 1916 and served on the Western Front with 45th Battalion.  While taking part in the Somme fighting, Thomas was promoted in the field to 2nd Lieutenant on 25th July 1916.  On 5th February 1917 he was further promoted to Lieutenant.

Thomas was with 13 Platoon, D Company, at Messines, leading a bombing party on 10th June 1917, when, at about 11pm, a shell or bomb exploded and he was killed instantly.

There is no known grave for Thomas; he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium.

Thomas' brother Raymond McIntyre (Service No 2613) also died fighting in Belgium, and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.
