Details:

Arthur De Boynton (Service No 3132) was born in Drake, NSW in 1893. At the time of enlistment in Kiama he was a single 23 year old dairy farmer from Berry, NSW. His enlistment must have been of serious concern to his family as it came soon after the death of his 2 brothers on the Somme.

He embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana with 8th Reinforcements, 45th Battalion on 25th November 1916 and arrived in England on 29th January 1917. After training Arthur was sent to France where he joined D Company, 45th Battalion in France on 7th May 1917. The battalion moved to Belgium and while taking part in the Messines battle Arthur was shot in the chest and killed instantly.

Arthur has no known grave and is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres Belgium. His brother William (Service No 476) died at Pozieres on 29th July, 1916 and Francis (Service No 4544) perished at Mouquet Farm on 9th August, 1916.
