John Logan (Service No 4180) was born in Ormiston, Scotland and attended Ormiston Public School.  He arrived in Australia in 1912 and settled in Thirroul, N.S.W.  John's parents did not emigrate to Australia and were still living in Scotland when John enlisted with the AIF.

John was 26 years old and employed as a coal miner when he enlisted.  Although he was single, John left behind a girlfriend to whom we has very close, as shown in his Will (details below).  He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A15 Star of England with 10th Reinforcements, 18th Battalion, on 8th March 1916.

The troops arrived in England and John has an AWOL recorded for a few days around this time.  He joined B Company, 18th Battalion, in France on 6th September 1916 and served on the Western Front.

On 22nd January 1917 John was promoted to Lance Corporal.

John was killed in action on 9th April 1918, while fighting the German Spring Offensive.

He is buried in Hangard Communal Cemetery Extension, France: Plot I, Row R, Grave 11.

John's Will states "I leave 50 pounds to my sweetheart Subina Round".  The remainder of his Estate went to his mother.  John had nominated Subina's father Executor of his Will.
