Thomas Shannon (Service No 7797) was born in Cobar, N.S.W.

When Thomas enlisted in Wollongong, N.S.W., at the age of 19 he was single, lived at Port Kembla, and worked as a labourer.  He had previously served in the Militia.

Thomas embarked from Sydney on HMAT A38 Ulysses with 26th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion on 19th December 1917.

The troops arrived in England on 13th February 1918, and Thomas was sent on to France, arriving on 6th May 1918.

Thomas served on the Western Front with no injuries recorded.

He returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged on 15th June 1919.

Thomas's brother William Shannon (Service No 2788 ) also served, and was killed in action.
