Ernest Browne Service (No 6302) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. and lived at Port Kembla, N.S.W.  when he enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy.  He joined his brother Reginald as a stoker on HMAS Huon and saw service in the Mediterranean Sea.

After a collision with HMAS Yarra on 8th August 1918, the ship docked at Genoa, Italy, for repairs. It was at this time the crew were struck down with influenza and five crewmen, including Ernest, died.

Ernest Browne is buried in Staglieno Cemetery, Genoa, Italy: Plot I, Row C, Grave 22.
