Harold Isedale (Service No 5478) was born around 1898 at Wallerawang, N.S.W. and attended Wollongong Public School as a child.

When he enlisted Harold was single, 18 years old, and employed as a carter and serving with 37th Infantry CMF.  

Harold embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with the 3rd Battalion, 17th Reinforcements  on 14th April 1916.  He arrived in Egypt on 16th May 1916 and was transferred to the 55th Battalion. They arrived in France on 29th June 1916.  The 55th Battalion saw service at Fromelle but it is unclear if Harold was present.  Harold served on the Western Front and was Mentioned in Despatches for his service between 22nd September 1917 and 2nd March 1918.  No further details are provided.

According to Harold's military documents with the National Archives of Australia (NAA), 5th July 1918 Harold was admitted to the evacuated to 15th Australian Field Ambulance for treatment of gun shot wounds to his back spine and right arm.  Harold died of these wounds on 6th July and is buried in Franvillers Communal Cemetery Extension, France (Plot I, Row G, Grave 4).

Note: Harold's date of death on the Australian War Memorial and AIF project documents is recorded as 4th July 1918.
