David Evans (Service No 3726) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. in 1890.

He enlisted when he was 25 years of age.  David was single and employed as a blacksmiths striker and had served in the Cadets.

David embarked from Sydney on HMAT Mooltan with 12th Reinforcements 1st Battalion on 11th December 1915.  He arrived in Egypt on 4th February 1916, then went on to France, arriving on 2nd April 1916.

On 15th April 1916 he was admitted to hospital sick and returned to his unit on 19th July 1916.  David was transferred to 1st Pioneers and served on the Western Front.  

On 20th September 1917, 1st Platoon, A Company, 1st Pioneers were near Ypres working on a track when a shell exploded and David was wounded.  He was evacuated to the 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station for treatment of a penetrating wound to his abdomen.  At 11pm that night he died from his wounds.

David is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium (Plot XXIII, Row D, Grave 4).
