Thomas Gwynne (Service No 1421) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. around 1893.

Thomas enlisted at the age of 22.  He was a single and working as a farmer at Lismore, N.S.W. Both Thomas' parents were deceased at this time and he named his sister as next of kin.

Thomas embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A47 Mashobra with 11th Reinforcements, 2nd Light Horse Regiment on 4th October 1915, arriving in Egypt on 9th january 1916.  Thomas served in Egypt and the Middle East.  He was admitted to hospital on numerous occasions and seems to have suffered badly from dysentery.

Thomas was admitted to hospital for the last time in Gaza, Palestine, on 17th October 1918 suffering from malaria and pneumonia.  He died from these illnesses at the 47th Stationary Hospital on 2nd November 1918.

He is buried in the Gaza War Cemetery, Palestine. Row G, Grave 9.
