Mark Waters (Service no 1270) was born in Durham, England, around 1893, and arrived in Australia in 1911.

Mark enlisted when he was 23 years old.  He was single and working as a wheeler.  Although he enlisted in Newcastle, N.S.W. Mark's Embarkation Roll records list his address as P.O., Keiraville, Wollongong, N.S.W.

Mark embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A24 Benalla with D Company, 35th Battalion on 1st May 1916, and arrived in England on 9th July 1916.  He had time to visit his family and have a photo taken with his brother who was in the British Army before he went to France on 21st November 1916.

Mark was fighting at Messines Ridge on 7th June 1917 when he was killed in action.  He was buried in Mud Corner British Cemetery in Belgium.
