Details:
John McGill (Service No 54716) was born in Scotland and was living in the Wollongong region, N.S.W. in 1914 when he married Jessie Erskine.
He enlisted when he was 28 years old and employed as a coal miner. At this time he lived in Bellambi, N.S.W. and had served for 2 years in the CMF (Citizen's Militia Force).
John embarked on the SS Feldmarschall with the General Service Reinforcement on19th June 1918 and arrived in England on 25th August 1918. He saw service in England.
John returned to Australia in August 1919 and was discharged on 28th October 1919. He remained in the Wollongong in the area and raised a family with his wife who died in 1942. John did not remarry and died in Wollongong in 1959.
