Clifford Gentle (Service No 18458) was born in Armidale, N.S.W. and attended Armidale Public School.

When he enlisted he was 23 years old, single, and working as a clerk at the Kiama Court House, N.S.W.

Clifford embarked from Sydney on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 7th Field Artillery 25th Battery on 11th May 1916.  He arrived in England on 10th July 1916 and was transferred to 26th Battery on 20th October 1916.  He arrived in France on 29th December 1916.

On 5th June 1917 he was fighting at Ploegsteert, Belgium when he was killed.

Clifford is buried in Strand Military Cemetery, Plot IV, Row A, Grave 1, Ploegsteert, Blegium.
