William Joseph Bone
William Joseph Bone (Service No 2330) was born in Albion Park, N.S.W. William was employed as a carpenter and living in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane, Queensland, when he enlisted at the age of nineteen.
He embarked with his unit from Brisbane on 5 October 1915, on board HMAT A69 Warialda.
William served in Egypt, France and Belgium and was promoted continually during his service.
As he progressed through the ranks he was transferred to the 47th Battalion, the 12th Australian Light Horse, and Trench Mortar Battalions.
He was promoted to Corporal in March 1916, then Sergeant on 4 May 1916 and finally to Lieutenant on 23 June 1917.
On 20 Sept 1918, while serving at the Somme, William was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to the right leg, which was considered to be 'mild'.
William was returned to Australia on board HMAT A72 Beltana and he was 23 years old when the war ended.
William is buried at Lutwyche Cemetary, Queensland.
