Harold Dawson was born in Wollongong, NSW about 1897 and at the time of enlistment was an 18 year old clerk who had spent 4 years in the Cadets.

He embarked on RMS Mooltan on 11th December 1915 with 12th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion. After arriving in Egypt he joined C Company and sailed with them to the Western Front. On 26th October 1916 he was promoted to Lance Corporal and soon after on 19th January 1917 to Cprporal.

On 5th May 1917 Harold was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital for treatment, finally arriving on 18th May. He was operated on for shrapnel wounds to his left leg and buttock and, unfortunately on 26th July 1917 his left leg had to be amputated.

Harold was returned to Australia in March 1921 having contracted Tuberculosis. He was discharged medically unfit on 14th May 1921 and died in 1922.
