Richard John Longstaff
Richard Longstaff (Service No 640) was born in Korumburra, Victoria. Richard had been in the Senior Cadets in Victoria before moving to Kiama, N.S.W.
He was living in Kiama when he enlisted a month after his brother William. Richard was 21 years of age and worked as a miner at this time.
Richard embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses on 22nd December 1914 with F Company, 13th Battalion.
He landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 25th April 1915 and was part of the early fighting. The 13th Battalion were in the trenches at the critical Quinns Post.
Richard was killed in action on 4th May 1915 and has no known grave. Richard's brother William was also killed in action at Galliopli in 1915.
Both Richard and William are commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial,Gallipoli.
