John Foster
John Foster (Service No 1357) was born in Oilich in England about 1889 and came to Australia in 1912.
At enlistment he was 25 years old, worked as a shunter, and residing with a Mrs Brodie of Woonona, N.S.W. He was listed as married but no details relating to his wife are recorded on his papers.
He embarked on HMAT A48 Seang Bee on 11th February 1915 with 2nd Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion and arrived at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915. John saw service there till the Lone Pine battle when he was killed.
There is no known grave for John; he is remembered on the Lone Pine Memorial.
A letter that John wrote to his parents in Wales on 26th December 1914 from camp is in his NAA file. In it, he tells them he is well and happy.
