George Bowie
George Bowie (Service No 17) was born in Helensburgh, NSW about 1892. He was a single 22 year old labourer who listed his uncle Andrew Bowie of Cessnock as his next of kin.
He embarked on HMAT A20 Honorata with A Company 34th Battalion on 2nd May 1916. George joined the battalion in France and saw service on the Western Front. On 7th October he was promoted to Lance Corporal in 3 Platoon A Company and placed in charge of a Lewis gun team. While fighting at Passchendaele on 12th October the gun team was hit by a shell and all were killed.
George Bowie is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Plot XXIII, Row C, Grave 22.
