Sergeant Francis Rose (Service no. 2978) was born circa 1889. He spent 18 months as a Lieutenant in the senior cadets and time in the 37th Infantry CMF. At the time of enlistment he was a single 27 year old manager at the Monumental works.

Francis embarked on SS Port Nicholson on 8th November, 1916 with 7th Reinforcements 45th Battalion. He saw service on the Western Front and on 16th July, 1917 he was wounded in action. He received a shrapnell wound to his right hand and was evacuated to hospital for treatment.

He returned to Australia in March 1920 and was discharged medically unfit on 13th July, 1920.
