Emily Gertrude Browne
Sister Emily Browne was born in Wollongong circa 1880 and after school trained as a nurse. At the time of enlistment she was a single 36 year old Sister.
Emily served at the Garrison Hospital until she embarked on RMS Karmala on 16th September, 1916. She served in various hospitals in India and was Matron of the hospital ship Narela.
She returned to Australia in November 1919 and was discharged on 24th February, 1920. She must have enjoyed the climate and life on the sub continent because she spent seven years in Ceylon after the war.
Emily then returned to Australia and in 1936 was working at the Randwick Military Hospital. She moved to Queensland and died there in 1948.
