Percy Irvine Haylock Owen
Lieutenant Percy Owen was born in Gibralter when his father Robert Owen was stationed there. He was educated in Wollongong and joined the AIF on the 13th October, 1915. He was a single 25 year old planter living in Bellambi at the time. He embarked on HMAT A19 Afric with 7th Reinforcements 58th Battalion on 3rd November, 1916 and saw service on the Western Front.
He was transferred to 3rd Battalion in 1917 in time for the battle of Passchendaele. On 22nd September, 1917 he was attacking when a machine gun bullet penetrated his helmet, killing him instantly.
Lieutenant Owen is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Plot 61, Row B, Grave 9.
