Private James Sharples (Service no. 4233) was born in Helensburg circa 1893. At enlistment he was a single 22 year old miner living in Reid Town, Corrimal. He embarked on HMAT A67 Orsova on 11th March, 1916 with 10th Reinforcements 19th Battalion.

James served on the Western Front and was killed in action on 14th November, 1916. He is buried in Warlencourt British Cemetery, Plot iv, Row E, Grave 35.
