Charles Meurant (Service No 780 - Note: NAA records have Service No 7810 on the summary only - all documents in the file have 780) was born in East Maitland, N.S.W. around 1893. At the time of his enlistment Charlie was single and working as a motor mechanic.

Charlie embarked rom Sydney with the 4th & 12th Light Horse Regiments, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic, on 25 June, 1915.  He fought at Gallipolli and his records show he suffered malaria while on theGallipolli Peninsula.

Later Charlie was sent to fight on the Western Front.  On 19th December 1916 he transferred to the Flying Corps and was posted to the 2nd squadron.

He was returned to Australia in mid 1919 and discharged from the AIF on 18th August 1919.
