Trooper William Pinkerton (service no. 1902) was born in Wollongong circa 1897.

William lived in Sydney and worked as a canvasser at the time of enlistment. He embarked on HMAT A25 Anglo-Egyptian on 19th September, 1916 with reinforcements for 12th Light Horse Regiment. He saw service in the Middle East and does not appear to have been wounded. On 6th March, 1917 he was transferred to the 4th Machine Gun Squadron.

He returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 19th July, 1919.
