James Edward Miles
Private James Miles (Service no. 4529) came to Australia in 1901 and settled in Mount Kembla with his family. As a young man he served in the cadets.
After enlisting in the AIF he embarked with 14th Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion on RMS Osterley on 15th January, 1916. After arriving in France he was dispatched to the 3rd Canadian Tunnelling Company on 22nd September, 1916. This arduous service caused problems with his health.
In October, 1917 he was returned to Australia and discharged medically unfit with tachycardia on 2nd February, 1918.
In 1928 he married Lavetta Beedle at Ryde and raised a family.
His 2 brothers Albert and Alfred also served.
