Private George Jones (Service no. 2089) was born in Newcastle circa 1876.

Prior to enlisting George was living in Kembla Heights probably with his mother and working as a miner. He was 40 years old when he enlisted. He embarked on HMAT A68 Anchises with 3rd Reinforcements, 36th Battalion on 24th August, 1916. George served on the Western Front and on 4th April, 1918 he was wounded in action. He received a gunshot wound to his buttock. He was evacuated for treatment and on 5th October, 1918 he was transferred to 33rd Battalion.

In January 1919 he was returned to Australia and discharged from the AIF on 2nd June, 1919. Nothing more is known about George in his later life.
