Private Joseph Greenwood (Service no.85) was born in Mount Kembla. In 1909 he married Ethel Mary Atkin.

On his enlistment papers he was described as a 29 year old married miner. He embarked with A Company 35th Battalion on HMAT A24 Benalla on 1st May, 1916. On arrival in France he was transferred to 13th Battalion and saw service on the Western Front with them.

On 19th March, 1918 he was wounded in action from being gassed. He was evacuated to hospital in England in April for treatment.

In January 1919 he was returned to Australia and was discharged from the AIF on 8th May,1919.
