Herbert Sydney Green (Service No 3766) was born in Wollongong. He was 25 years of age when enlisted in Armidale, N.S.W., where he was working as a mechanic.

He embarked with 12th Reinforcement, 4th Battalion on HMAT A7 Medic on 30th December, 1915. Upon his arrival in Egypt, he was transferred to the 13th Battalion, and with this Battalion, served on the Western Front.

On 5th April, 1918 Herbert was promoted to Corporal. When the war ended he was further promoted to Warrant Officer 2. On 27th May, 1919 he became the Regimental Quartermaster.

Herbert returned to Australia in October 1919, per the HMAT A29 Suevic.

Herbert was discharged from the AIF on 3rd November, 1919 and married Ivy Manuel in that same year.

Herbert died, aged 80, in Tamworth, N.S.W. He is buried at Manilla Cemetery, Manilla, N.S.W.
